The Honeybee
Slow, Internal Processor who is a Micro Focused, Task Oriented, Concrete Thinker.
Understanding the Honeybee:
Honeybees are the quintessential worker bees. In the wild, bees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They pollinate 80% of the world's plants which means one out of every three or four bites of food you eat is directly thanks to the bees. In life, individuals with the Bee personality feel the responsibility for ALL tasks. They are always "buzzing around" doing something and feeling the need to not only get it all done but to get it done correctly (perfectly). They are list makers and are all about the process. Therefore, the Honeybee personality is all about the “HOW?” How do we do that? How does it work? It is extremely important to them to understand the process and for things to make sense. Honeybees have a specific way they think things “should” be done and when things do not go as planned or as well as the Honeybee wants, they can be very moody. In fact, the slightest interruption to a plan is enough to ruin their entire day. They are very detail oriented, for them specifics equal sincerity. This may be frustrating to other personality types because when Honeybees want to discuss something, they want to discuss every detail, sometimes multiple times. It is extremely important to them that they not only hear the details, but that they are also allowed to vocalize their details. To a Honeybee, it is just as important that things are done correctly than they are just to get them done. Honeybees have extremely high standards (often perfection) for themselves and others. In fact, what may seem perfect to others, seems barely good enough to a Honeybee. They have the natural gift of being able to look at any situation and to be able to tell you how it could be done better.
Honeybees must be careful with this, because although they feel that they are constantly improving things and making them better, this frequently feels critical to others. It can leave individuals of other personality types feeling as though nothing will ever be "good enough" for them. When the Honeybee has the perfectionistic tendency, it will often-times leave them feeling like their own work is not good enough. Honeybees are incredibly loyal and self denying. They will do anything for you and it will be done well. They do tend to put everyone else's needs ahead of their own and if they're not careful they will become resentful of this because they feel the burden to do it. At times this is a very justified feeling, at others it is a self-inflicted choice to take on the tasks. The Honeybee personality is very practical and logical. Their thought process is analytical and systematic. This means that they have a specific way in which they feel things should be done. If it does not go as planned or if it does not go in this way, they feel it is "wrong" and they will tend to be very moody. Flexibility is not in the inherent skill set for most Honeybees. They found a method and they stick to it. However, one of the challenges for a Honeybee, if they are unable to be “perfect” with a task or a project, then they may procrastinate to the last minute; which could add to their stress/moodiness.
Important things to remember if you’re a Honeybee:
You have a gift of seeing how things could be better. Your intention is truly to help; however, to the other personality types, it feels like criticism. This can leave those around you feeling as though things (or even they) are not good enough. Try to be aware of how negative this may come across.
Important things to remember if you’re in a relationship with a Honeybee:
For Honeybees, they feel the weight of the world on their shoulders because they feel they have to get every task done. So try not to take offense when they are serious and hyper focused. And, know that it is important to them that you appreciate their contributions.
They value logic and need everything to make sense, so be sure you explain your point thoroughly. A helpful way to do this is to give the point, then explain it, discuss how and why, then explain how that connects to the next point.
Finally, if you seem unstructured, or “willy nilly” this will create anxiety and possibly even a lack of trust. Show them respect by respecting their need for quality, logic, and structure.
