The Evergreen Relationships
Dolphin + Bear
Endearing Evergreen
Relationships are at the core of everything for Bears and Dolphins; therefore, when in tune, this union is known as ENDEARING EVERGREEN. Individually, each of these personality types are very endearing, the two of them together are the picture of captivating and are sure to be liked by most. With both being relationship oriented this pairing is typically very enjoyable and emotionally fulfilling for both. Both Dolphins and Bears also tend to be abstract thinkers, this brings with it a wonderful ability and gift of flexibility that enables this relationship to be very adaptable and to easily adjust to most situations. Although typically reserved, the Bear is very playful with those in their inner circle which, when mixed with the Dolphin’s perpetual playfulness, makes for a very fun relationship. The Dolphin is all about big social circles whereas the Bear sticks to their small group of friends. Therefore, if the Dolphin is in the Bear’s trusted circle, they can be somewhat of a security blanket that can prompt the Bear to expand their typically small circle of friends. The Bear’s ability and tendency to develop deep meaningful connections can help the Dolphin develop more relationships beyond a superficial level. This pairing is not likely to lose sight of the importance of relationships; therefore, in conflicts, the health of the relationship will trump “being right” or winning any argument. Instead, they are likely to find a compromise or go to greater lengths to meet the needs of the other.
Exhausting Evergreen
There are several stark differences between these two personalities that can quickly become EXHAUSTING if the relationship becomes dissonant. Most notably, Dolphins are known as being very high energy while Bears are the epitome of low energy. The fact that Dolphins are energized and validated by this fast pace and Bears are energized and have their sense of security in calm steadiness, creates an energy drain for both. It is absolutely exhausting for the Bear to be around the Dolphin’s bubbly persona that is so overstimulating to the Bear they will feel the need to hibernate by isolating. If this is not possible, the Bear may be annoyed and become somewhat of a grizzly bear, lashing out - Claws out. Likewise, the Dolphin needs to be stimulated and keep things lively therefore the Bear’s propensity for quiet calm makes the Dolphin feel stifled and bogged down. Another dynamic that is created with this pairing is communication styles. The Dolphin is an artist with words, frequently telling elaborate stories that paint pictures with their words. This verbose communication is a stark contrast to the Bear who is a very sparse and laconic speaker. Additionally, the Dolphin is uncomfortable with quietness while the Bear relishes silence, therefore, both may be easily frustrated with the communication patterns of the other. The Dolphin is an external processor whereas the Bear is an internal processor, if they do not respect this difference it is sure to lead to multiple communication breakdowns. Both Bears and Dolphins will tend towards not wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings so having open communication may also be a struggle. In addition to these differences, neither of these are very task oriented, therefore, getting them focused and motivated on a task may prove challenging.
Things to Remember:
Dolphins, temper your enthusiasm and stop talking long enough for the Bear to process the information and provide feedback. Although well-intentioned, your exuberance is overpowering and overstimulating to others. Bears, speak up! The Dolphins need more words from you. They are validated and invalidated by words, your silence can and will likely be interpreted as disinterest and possibly even rejection.
